The number of 131 titular professors and 162 associate professors for 888 academic teachers, gives one of the highest rates and places the University at the forefront of all universities in Poland. The employees of the Medical University of Bialystok are experts in their fields of science, members of scientific committees, editorial magazines, many of them work as national and provincial consultants. Dynamic and creative staff is also a huge potential in obtaining external funds, scientific and EU funds, as well as in the commercialization of scientific research.

Medical University of Bialystok is a precursor and leader in conducting work on artificial intelligence in medicine and contributing to the development of large-scale research on genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, radiomics and bioinformatics. The first Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine in this part of Europe was established in MUB. Its aim is to collect and analyse high quality complex data sets from patients with civilisation diseases. The University also conducts a populationbased study, unique in this part of Europe, covering 10 000 inhabitants of Bialystok (Bialystok Plus Study). Unique research programmes in the field of personalised medicine and civilisation diseases are being implemented. One of them is a project to create a reference model of biobanking and a service supporting the diagnosis and treatment of early stages of non-small cell lung cancer. Thanks to the conducted projects, a unique, on a European scale, database containing the results of analysis of the entire genome of several hundred patients with oncological diseases (including lung cancer, ovarian cancer) and other diseases of civilisation (including diabetes, obesity) was created. The University is also a leader in high quality banking of biological material from patients with diseases of civilization. The collected data are used to create the Polish HD Medicine Database, which is intended to provide an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms of such diseases as cancer, cardiovascular, metabolic and other diseases and to develop new therapeutic goals. The activities of the Medical University of Bialystok initiate a number of research and development projects carried out in cooperation with other scientific centres.

The university has an ultra-modern scientific-didactic base, which includes: a modern University Clinical Hospital, Euro-regional Pharmacy Center, Didactic and Scientific Center of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Clinical Research Center, Experimental Medicine Center, Innovation Research Center, Bioinformatics Center and Data Analysis, Molecular Imaging Laboratory and Medical Simulation Center. 

The significant position of the University is confirmed by the high parametric assessment of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, according to which in all three UMB Divisions have category A and KNOW status (2012 – 2017). Moreover, UMB, as the only Polish university, has won a prestigious grant for conducting doctoral studies in the COFUND competition as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Program in the Framework Program of the European Commission, Horizon 2020.

Currently, about 5500 students study in 16 medical fields, including 400 students in English Division. Foreign students come from all over the world: Norway, Sweden, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia just to name a few.

The full educational offer of UMB: Medical Analytics, Biostatistics, Nutrition, Electroradiology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Cosmetology, Medicine, Dentistry, Speech Therapy with Fonoaudiology, Nursing, Midwifery, Emergency Medicine, Dental Technology, Dental Hygiene and Public Health, as well as doctoral and postgraduate studies. University graduates are prepared to work with the patient, for the sake of his good and respect for universal ethical principles, but also as future employees of science exploring the secrets of knowledge, which they can use in practice. There are academic clubs and student organizations operating at the university, where students conduct clinical trials, gain practical skills, take part in scientific conferences and develop their interests.

The Medical University of Bialystok is open to cooperation with entrepreneurs from various industries. UMB researchers patent and commercialize many inventions. The latest are: Medical Honey product based on extract of propolis that delays the development of brain glioblastoma, a preparation under the UMB license to strengthen bees from LOB, artificial saliva, or work on the fungus extract from the Bialowieza Forest that fights colon cancer.

The headquarters of the University is in the eighteenth-century Baroque Palace, called the Versailles of the North and located in the city center. University campus, educational buildings, two clinical hospitals, student dormitories and sports facilities are in a very short distance.
